What is a bariatric bed frame?

A bariatric bed is generally described as a strong bed that is designed for larger, heavier people that will hold up to 300kgs / 47 stone. Basically they are beds for heavy people.

To be clear our bariatric beds are not medical beds. They are stylish strong bed frames built for the job. You don’t have to have a bed with an institutional feel just because you are a big person. Our range of reinforce beds will be a focal point of your bedroom, not a blot.

Wrought Iron Beds

Our strongest bed is a wrought iron bed frame capable of withstanding weights up to 65 stone / 412kgs. These wrought iron beds have a strong welded mesh base with cross support bars for additional strength. There are 10 designs to choose from all with the option of high foot end or low foot end. All are available in black of ivory but can be finished in any colour subject to a surcharge. Another standard feature of these stylish bariatric beds is the option for the side rails to be fitted at either 32cm or 40cm from the floor. If this isn’t enough, we can also make these extra strong beds in lengths up to 7’0” / 215cm. It's not an indestructible bed frame, but it's not far off. Not bad for bariatric bed!

Reinforced Beds

We have a range of reinforced beds that are suitable and will hold up to 300kgs / 47 stone. These strong bed frames are available in 2 collections, solid oak or metal.

Solid Oak Beds

The solid oak frames conceal a steel support system. However, there is no compromise on comfort as these strong beds have sprung beech slats for the mattress to sit on. They are robust and made to the highest standards. Double and king size bed frames are available in the solid oak bed range. And with 3 designs to choose from, these are another great alternative to an ugly medical bed.

Metal Bed Frames

Our value range of sturdy beds, and you probably didn’t think there was such a bed. Well just because you’re a big person doesn’t mean you have to spend the earth on a bed. Our prices start at just £159 for a metal bed frame that is designed to hold up to 300kgs / 47stone. With 3 contemporary styles and 3 traditional styles there’s a bed frame in this collection for every bedroom. All of these extra strong beds have contract grade side rails and a strong mesh base and are easy to assemble. Added to this all the above ranges are delivered free on a 2-5 day service.

Fabric Beds

We’ve covered the only type of extra strong beds you’d expect to buy, metal bed frames and solid oak beds. Well, you might be surprised to learn that you can have a fabric bed that is a ‘bariatric bed’. Yes, we have a range of fabric beds will hold up to 450kgs / 70 stone. These stylish fabric beds won’t break the bank either. They are also extremely comfortable as they have sprung slatted bases. If you’re short of storage there are a number of options with drawers, and for those that need to maximise their storage space there are ottoman beds as well. These great beds can be with you within 7 days and delivery is free.

Reinforced divan bases

If you just want a traditional divan base, we have a great value reinforced divan base that is certified to take up to 75 stone / 450kgs. We also have Relyon reinforced divan bases, however at the time of writing this article are unsure as to the weight limit.

Mattresses for heavy people

If you’re looking for a heavy duty mattress, we have some great options that are exclusive to Big Brand Beds. All are strong mattresses suitable for use by an individual weighing up to 25 stone / 160kgs and have a 40 stone / 255kgs limit for 2 people sharing.

They are a collection of extra firm mattresses that are guaranteed for 1 year. Using heavy gauge wire and reinforced sides, these are a really good mattress for heavy people.

We also stock Dunlopillo mattresses which are our most resilient range of mattresses as they are a 100% pure latex mattress. However they are not recommended for the above weights.
