John Atkinson Blanket Reviews
John Atkinson manufacture England's finest blankets. Their bed blankets are used in the homes of Royalty across the globe and provide the the perfect traditional finishing touch to any bed.
This week our John Atkinson blanket review is the Atkincel Cellular blanket.
A wool blanket provides the heat-retention and moisture-wicking properties of wool with a soft, luxurious feel as well as many other benefits. Our wool blankets are made from 100% high-quality wool. When you sleep under one of these blankets, your body will thank you for it.
Before writing our review on the John Atkinson Atkincel cellular blanket we ought to ask:
What is a cellular blanket?
Simply put, cellular blankets are woven with lots of holes in them. The holes in a cellular blanket allow air to freely flow into and through the fibres. The air then heats up with the warmth from your body. They provide great insulation and warmth, but importantly the holes provide breathability.
What are the benefits of a wool cellular blanket?
- Wool is the only fibre that regulates temperature.
- Wool fibres are hollow, naturally wicking moisture away from the skin.
- Wool fibres are anti-microbial and naturally resist odours.
- Wool is naturally flame retardant and self extinguishing.
- Wool fibres are elastic and bounce back to their original shape.
- Wool fibres are more durable than other fibres.
- Wool is naturally anti-static, keeping static electricity away from the skin.
- Wool can be dyed in a wide range of colours.
The Atkincel cellular blanket is our best selling blanket. This is down to its price and versatility. At 300gms (grams per square metre) this is not a heavy blanket. It has a very different feel to a solid wool blanket with the honeycomb texture making it extremely tactile.
When this cellular blanket is draped around or over you, you quickly sense a change in temperature. However, it is a subtle change and not overpowering. If you feel you are over heating, which is highly unlikely, a gentle flick of the blanket quickly replaces the warm air trapped next to your body allowing your body temperature to regulate. It’s easy to understand why cellular blankets are the go to blanket for use with young children and babies. Wool is a fibre that helps you to stay warm when it’s cold and cools you when it’s warm. It is also extremely eco friendly as it is natural, renewable and biodegradable. There really aren’t any downsides to this pure wool cellular blanket.
What are the sizes of a John Atkinson cellular blanket?
- single atkincel cellular blanket 180cm x 230cm.
- double atkincel cellular blanket is 230cm x 255cm.
- king size atkincel cellular blanket is 255cm x 280cm.
- super king size atkincel cellular blanket is 255cm x 305cm.
This extremely light and warm blanket is available in white, champagne, Alaskan blue and powder pink. They are bound all round with colour co-ordinating satin binding.
Big Brand Beds John Atkinson Cellular blanket review
This is our most popular cellular blanket. The softness of this blanket will make you want to sleep at night and stay in bed all day. The woven cellular structure and weight of the Atkincel blanket makes it a perfect choice for all seasons. Without doubt one of the best cellular blankets available.
This week our John Atkinson blanket review is the lambswool and cashmere blanket.
Introducing the luxurious John Atkinson lambswool and cashmere blanket. Woven from pure lambswool and cashmere, this blanket is carefully crafted in Great Britain with a century-old technique. Designed to last a lifetime, its heavenly softness and comforting drape will have you reaching out for it at the end of every bedtime. Because of its natural warmth, this blanket will provide warmth when the temperature drops or additional comfort during the spring months. It will also come in handy during that in-between period, keeping you snug until winter's back on its way.
This blend of lambswool and cashmere is very soft to touch. You can really feel the cashmere that is combined with the lambswool. It’s the mix of 15% cashmere and 85% lambswool that gives this blanket a much softer feel than a 100% lambswool blanket. It drapes beautifully and doesn’t take long for you to feel the benefit of its insulation properties.
Because of the density of a pure cashmere blanket, this blended ‘lambcash’ blanket is the lighter of the two. I can imagine this lambswool blanket blended with cashmere would be an ideal blanket for those warmer summer nights. However I believe 2 blankets would be needed for most people during the winter months.
Wool has exceptional properties that enable it to absorb moisture whilst maintaining a dry exterior. This means that there is an area of dry air between the blanket and the skin which affords extremely good temperature regulation.
John Atkinsons lambswool and cashmere blankets are generously cut to allow plenty of tuck on standard UK beds.

Big Brand Beds John Atkinson Lambswool and Cashmere blanket review
Not far from the luxury of a pure cashmere blanket. It won’t break the bank but feels great. This is an excellent high quality light weight summer blanket.
This week our John Atkinson blanket review is the cashmere blanket.
The ultimate softest blanket in the universe. This is the Rolls Royce of all blankets. This is literally the most comfortable blanket in the universe. Its softness and warmth can not be described in words. You have to feel it for yourself.
This luxurious bed blanket is made from 100% cashmere and it is truly delightful to handle. Unlike some wool blankets, there is no itchiness when handling a cashmere blanket. It is so soft and drapes perfectly. This is because cashmere is woven from the fibres brushed from the delicate under belly wool of a cashmere goat to give a beautiful fine texture. Cashmere blankets easily make the list of one of the most expensive bedding items your are ever likely to buy. We are talking about luxury blankets that cost upwards of £1500. They really are the ultimate winter protection.
It’s obvious from draping this cashmere blanket over my bare arm that it is going to keep you very warm, without being heavy. It really is a light blanket, but so cosy. It’s definitely light enough for year-round use and this is another benefit of cashmere. The ultra-fine fibres have strong insulating properties which are necessary as the cashmere goats generally live in areas of China and Mongolia that have widely fluctuating temperatures throughout the year. These blankets are extremely soft, warm and very lightweight. The blankets are very breathable and help regulate body temperature for extreme comfort.

Big Brand Beds John Atkinson Cashmere blanket review
These pure cashmere blankets are probably the finest blankets that are manufactured in the UK. I have fallen in love with this blanket. It is likely to be he most comfortable blanket you’ll ever sleep under. The only problem I can foresee is that once you have owned a cashmere blanket, there is no going back to any other blanket.
