This week our Hypnos mattress review is the Orthos Elite Cashmere.

Ortho is a term that is used in so many medical sectors. It’s a Greek prefix meaning straight, upright, correct. Mixing the term with Elite and Cashmere give this Hypnos mattress a lot to live up to, so let’s see how it matches up to its name.

We have this smart looking mattress on a platform top non storage divan in our bed shop. This gives the mattress the greatest chance at offering optimal support. The bed looks very smart, the aesthetics are very pleasing. There’s a euro slim Hypnos headboard to complete the look, which is available in a big selection of fabrics to create the bedroom of your dreams. The cocona-infused Belgian damask mattress cover is soft to touch and provides a fresh and hygienic sleeping surface.

On sitting on this firm Hypnos mattress, it gives slightly more than I expected even though it is paired with a platform top divan base. This is due to my entire weight being centred on a small area. Once laying down with my weight evenly distributed on the mattress it feels firmer. This is how I expected it to feel. It gives a little, but it is noticeably a firmer mattress. It has a very supportive feel, just what your body needs to help you sleep better. The support that this mattress gives does not leave you feeling like you are sinking into the mattress, and the feel will let you sleep soundly through the night. This appears to be an ideal mattress for a back sleeper.

It’s always worth trying a bed in all the positions you sleep in. I will always sleep on my side in the foetal position and this mattress, although firm was extremely comfortable for me. I guess that’s down to the generous layers of cashmere and wool upholstery in the mattress providing comfort to the pressure zones – shoulders, hips and feet. I’m not a big person and this held me in a comfortable position that I felt I could stay in for hours. The soft cashmere and wool work in perfect harmony with the 9 turned individually pocketed springs. This really is an excellent luxurious Hypnos mattress, and this is not just me saying so. After 20 minutes or so my body was telling me so. On my back and side my spine was feeling pressure free, and not having to thrash around to find the perfect position of comfort was a great benefit.

I’m one of those people that like to sit up in bed and watch tv. I know it’s not supposed to be good for getting a good nights sleep as your mind is supposed to switch off. However, it works for me as when I watch tv it makes me feel tired. So one test I like to do is sitting up against the headboard to see how it feels. Afterall, I spend a lot of time in this position. The mattress held up very well but gave a fraction more than when I sat on the edge on the bed. This is probably due to the edge support and the 3 rows of hand side stitching holding the mattress together.

Knowing that this mattress is turnable makes it even more attractive to me. I like the fact that I can flip it on a regular basis to have a fresh sleeping surface. Don’t worry if the prospect of having to turn a heavy and luxurious Hypnos mattress is daunting.
