Here's a handy tip. Pillows, quilts and duvets are made of synthetic material which is not the best for landfills. That plus the fact that pillow manufacturing companies recommend replacing them every 6 months to 2 years. This can lead to a lot of unhealthy non-degradable fluff filling up our landfill sites.

The good news is that there are plenty of wonderful ways to reuse your old synthetic pillows, quilts and duvets, but just make sure that you wash them first.

Use the filling to pad new pillows making them even firmer! Donate them to a local animal shelter. They are always in need of materials for the animals. What isn't fluffy enough for you is a pillow heaven for an unwanted puppy. You can also use the filling to make new decorative cushions for your living room by using the old pillows to fill them, or as someone recently recommended, save them for the next time you move. Your dishes, pots and pans will never have a smoother move.
