Household Linen care

Washing guide

If you have allergies or asthma triggered by pet dander or dust mites, your physician or allergist has probably recommended that you wash your bedding in very hot water every week to reduce your exposure to these allergens. Normal laundering is a simple, inexpensive, and effective way of removing allergens such as dust mites and cat dander.

Researchers concluded that using detergent solutions at 25°C (77°F) for at least five minutes was sufficient to extract most dust mite and cat allergen from bedding. Therefore there's no need to ruin your items through over washing as this temperature will be gentler on the fabric.

Pillows

With reasonable use and care a good natural pillow can last for up to 10 years. A synthetic pillow may only last for a couple of years before it ceases to provide the correct support. A restless sleeper will be harder on their pillow than a peaceful sleeper. By using a pillow protector it will help to keep your pillow free from impurities such as dirt and moisture. This will help to stop your pillow getting flat, lumpy and dirty.

Quilts

Local soiling may be cleaned with a damp sponge, using hand-hot water and mild detergent. Lightly rinse the affected area and dry by airing. For more serious soiling take it to a professional cleaner who specialises in continental quilts.
